Nikos-Takis Haute Couture was established in 1963 when Nikos and Takisdecided to give up the formative arts and folklore crafts and to deal with the fabric and the female figure.
Their primary goal was to design unconventional and daring creations through the blend of hand woven fabric and muslin. Shortly, the qualities of their work, as well as their creativity were globally recognized and in October of 1972as a response to the Greek Government’s invitation they participated in the 1st Greek Fashion Festival.
In brief, the firm’s successful history includes the placement of their creations among other exhibits in the Historical Society Museums of Chicago and Philadelphia; the evening gowns designed to dress the 74 participants in theMiss Universe Beauty Pageant that was held in the ancient theatre of Herodio and the representation of Greece in a fashion festival held in Ceausescu’s Palace in Bucharest.
Throughout the firm’s long history, personalities of the global jet set chose to dress with the creations of Nikos and Takis.
More specific, Elisabeth Taylor, Linda Evans, Ursula Andres, Sophia Loren, Ornella Mutti, Joan Collins, Jackie Onassis, Maria Callas and Nana Mouskouri are among the international clientele of the firm.
International fashion magazines and newspapers, such as The New York Times, Vogue and L’ Official hosted articles regarding the success story of the firm and presented many collections in their pages.
Since 1996, Harris Tsiaras and Elias Spandideas, after 10 years of apprenticeship, have taken over the role of the firm’s fashion designers and C.E.Os. Nikos-Takis Haute Couture in 2005 established and operates since then afashion hotel in the Greek island of Rhodes and a Modelling Academy in Athens.
Nikos-Takis Haute Couture is mainly a fashion house. The European flavoured collections, designed and created bi annually, are the following:
- Wedding Gowns Collection
- Haute Couture Collection (evening gowns)
- Prêt-a-Porter De Luxe (cocktail dresses, business and casuals, jackets and coats for women)
- Men’s Collection (ceremonial and business suits and accessories)
- Baptism Collection
The collections are primarily forwarded to the company’s retail stores operating in Greece.
The Wedding, part of the Prêt-a-Porter De Luxe, Men’s and Baptism Collections are furthermore forwarded to a great number of retail stores in Greece and other European Countries.
The company’s trained personnel, under the guidance of the designers, apply, by hand, unique motifs of embroidery with Swarovski crystals to a great number of the Wedding and Haute Couture Collections’ creations.
